Obituary for Alice Vandenberg (Schonewille)

VANDENBERG, Alice (nee Schonewille)
Feb 11, 1937 to Apr 24, 2021

A life well lived. Passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Beloved wife of Martin for 63 years. Alice came to Canada from Holland in 1954 with her parents and siblings. They settled in St Catharines where she met and married Martin in 1957. Alice and Martin lived for a few years in Elliot Lake and Sault Ste Marie, before returning to the Niagara area where they raised their family. After living in Niagara Falls for about 20 years, they built their dream home in Jordan. Alice loved to entertain, was an amazing hostess and cook and loved a good Black Russian. Loving mother of Craig (Shelley), Keith (Tammy) and Melissa (Greg) Dougan. Proud grandmother of Tiffany (Steve) Taylor, Brandon Vandenberg (Rebecca), Cole Vandenberg (Heather), Tanner Vandenberg (Savannah), Colin (Rebecca) Dougan and Ashley (Kevin) Bateman. Great-grandmother to Sophia and Olivia Taylor and great- granddaughters Bateman and Dougan on the way. Alice also leaves behind brother, Hans (Cheryl) Schonewille, and sister, Carla (Phil) Coppel, and many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by brothers: John and Henk Schonewille. In honouring Alice’s wishes, a private family service will take place. Many thanks to the palliative health care team who helped Alice these past few weeks, with special thanks to Silvia and Paul. Memorial donations to Cancer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
