Obituary for David Herbert Edwards

EDWARDS, David Herbert (“Dave”)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Dave passed away in the COVID-19 ward at the NHS - St. Catharines site on Monday, January 18, 2021 at the age of 76. Loving husband of Holly (née Richter) for over 54 years. Beloved father of Jodi Edwards & Dave Curk of Milton, and Michelle Edwards-Boldt & Terence Boldt of Oakville. A very devoted grandfather (“Baca”) to Owen and Rylie Boldt and granddog, Ziggy Curk. Dave is survived by his brothers-in-law, Paul (Carol) Richter of Lock Haven, PA and Bob (Linda) Richter of St. Catharines, as well as his Richter nieces and nephews. (Predeceased by his in-laws, Mathew and Estelle Richter.) Dave was born May 4, 1944 to Victor and Viola (née Masterson) Edwards in St. Catharines, ON. He grew up on Power Glen Road just down from his grandparent’s farm, where he enjoyed making many great memories with his extended family. He was a graduate of St. Catharines Collegiate, Mohawk College and Ryerson University. Dave loved all things cars and was a dedicated Engineer with General Motors for his entire career, retiring in 2003. He was very loyal to the brand and would cringe any time someone parked a car that wasn’t a GM in the driveway. Post-retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at Boldt Pools & Spas. Dave was a master “putterer” and enjoyed time spent outside tending to his gardens, washing his cars and watching the grass grow. He and Holly enjoyed dining out and visiting the friends they had made at several establishments “over the river”. Dave loved a well-planned road trip, and the family enjoyed many summer vacations to Cape Cod, Hilton Head, and more recently, to the Lake of Bays. He was a firm believer of the paper map and loved to give directions. Dave enjoyed volunteering for several local organizations over the years and was active in whatever activities his kids and grandkids were into at the time. He was their greatest supporter and loudest cheerleader. (An entire grandstand of cheering parents at Henley Island could not be outdone by one lone dad standing on the other side.) Dave said while he was very proud of his career at GM, his biggest accomplishment was his children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the NHS - St. Catharines and NHS - Welland for their recent care as well as the Orthopedics team at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre.
