Obituary for Edna Mildred Cressey

CRESSY, Edna (nee Mahler)
September 23, 1919 - April 22, 2022

On April 22 in her 103rd year, our beloved Edna took her leave of us. Long predeceased by her devoted husband George H. Cressey. Edna was also the last of her eight sisters and three brothers, even though she was the fourth born. She was happy to make this journey, to leave the pain and struggle behind, but Edna left also a legacy, an example of the power of a courageous gentle heart open to all whether it be family, friend, or stranger. Her gift was making everyone feel embraced by her smile and genuine warmth. It was the Edna effect you felt. You felt special because she saw the special in everyone. There remains a small army of us to carry on that legacy, Melodie Carleton, Sharon German, Penny Cressey, Beverly Laur, Tom Cressey and a multitude of grands, greats, great-greats, nieces and nephews. With diligence, we may be successful, but she is a hard act to follow. Rest now Mother for though you never understood your effect, it was because you were so truly special. To the dozens of PSW’s, nurses, e-techs, our case manager at the LHIN, Carleton Heights Pharmacy and Dr. Harb and staff who not only came into our home to support us, you came into our hearts, you made every day of the last five years easier for mother and the family. Thank you for your dedication. Without you, Mother’s wish to end her days at home would never been possible.

In Edna’s memory, give a smile and a hello to a passerby, thank the person serving you, give the respect you expect to receive. In honouring Edna’s wishes cremation has taken place.
