Obituary for Elisabeth Scatcherd Fischer (Haultain)

FISCHER, Elisabeth S. (nee Haultain) 1929 – 2022

On August 31st, 2022, Elisabeth S. Fischer, daughter of Norman and Phyllis Haultain, died peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by her children. She lived a long and productive life and was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Anthony (Tony) W. Fischer who died in 1994 and by her two sisters, Rosemary Corbett and Charlotte Jackes in 2010. She leaves behind two sons, Matthew and Alex (Debbie) Fischer, and a daughter, Megan (Rod) McKee, plus 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Lis was born and raised in Port Dalhousie, moving to old Glenridge when she married Tony, and attended St. George’s Anglican Church. In 1986 the couple moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake where she joined St. Mark’s Anglican Church. She volunteered at the Shaw Festival Theatre and served on the St. Mark’s Alter Guild and the St. Mark’s Church Choir. As well she enjoyed singing in the “Evergreen” community choir which met weekly in Niagara.
She travelled extensively, including vacation trips to Bequia and Barbados, several choir trips to the cathedrals in England and enjoyed a number of unique adventures, including visits to the Orkney Islands and Iceland aboard a converted cold-war-era Russian spy ship, and a memorable trip to Midway Island in the Pacific.
Cremation has taken place. A private interment is planned in the Haultain family plot at St. John’s Cemetery, Port Dalhousie. The family will host a reception to celebrate her life at a later date for her many friends and extended family.
