ROSS, Elmer Benjamin
Peacefully with his wife by his side at Tabor Manor on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 92 years of age. Beloved husband of Vera (nee Tindall) for almost 70 years. Loved Dad of Valerie (Paul) McLean & Terri (Greg) Panas and the late Gary (1984). Proud Grandpa of Allysa & Rachel McLean (Robert Turenne) and Alex & Miranda Panas. Honorary “Dad” of Cliff (Karen) MacKiddie, Jim (Vicki) Giroux and Scott (Becky) Librock. Special Grandpa and Great-Grandpa of Tim (Lisa) & Olivia MacKiddie, Matt MacKiddie, Adam (Andrea) & Blaire Giroux, Andrew (Erica) Giroux and Madeline Librock. Much loved brother of Edna (late Ray) McNabb, Vera (Wes) Wiebe, Wilma Glover, Gilbert (Eileen), Carl (Terri) and Roy (Laverne) Desjarlais; predeceased by Rita, Wilfred, Joseph and Walter Desjarlais. He is also fondly remembered by sisters-in-law: Sharon Desjarlais and Betty Garling, his cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. Elmer was born February 15, 1929 in Hubbard Saskatchewan. In April of 1953 he and Vera and their friends Gary and Shirley McIntosh moved to Ontario for better job opportunities. First settling in Niagara Falls and driving bus and then working for CN, then moving to St. Catharines where Elmer joined the Ontario Provincial Police. He retired in 1988, with the rank of Corporal after 32 & 1/2 years of service, to a home in Bobcaygeon that he and Vera built. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and motorcycling trips. Elmer loved music and dancing with his wife. He loved to play the fiddle and harmonica and still entertained us with harmonica tunes right up until his second last day. The family would especially like to thank all of the staff at Tabor Manor for their wonderful care and compassion that they have shown to Elmer and the family. We also remember his friends on the 3rd floor. In honouring Elmer’s wishes a private family service will take place. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date when it is safe to gather. Memorial donations to Food4Kids Niagara or Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold to help out in these difficult times would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
