Obituary for G. Peter Doherty

DOHERTY, George Peter

Passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Monday, December 27, 2021, at 75 years of age. He is survived by his beloved wife Heather (nee Anderson). Devoted and loving father of John (Heather), Dawn (John) and Keith (Hilary). Proud grandfather/Papa of Liam, Katie and Jack, Maci and Blake. Step-father of Shane Butryn (Kristen) and Bryan Butryn (Chantal) and granddaughters Jolene, Gwendolyn and Danika. Loved brother of Maureen Brydon, John, Ken, Sean and Derek Doherty, and lots of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He will also be greatly missed by many dear friends and family, too many to name. Predeceased by his parents, June and Jack Doherty, and his sister, Mae Belle Holland.

Peter was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on October 3rd, 1946. Soon after, his family moved to Mississauga where he attended school. He spent many years in Burlington, raising his family until finally settling in St Catharines. Peter was a proud employee of General Motors until his retirement in 2002.

Peter was a bright light. Anyone that had the privilege of knowing Peter knew that he was a genuine loving and caring person who was always there if you needed him. His passions included spending time with his family and friends, time at the cottage and attending the various activities of his grandchildren. He was also an avid golfer who loved his retirement job working at Twenty Valley Golf Club.

A life well lived; he will be missed by all he met along the way. We know he is at peace and is watching over us.

In honouring Peter’s wishes a private family service has taken place. A celebration of life will follow once we are able to have a larger gathering.

Memorial donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
