Obituary for Glyn Moore

MOORE, Glyn

"On the morning of Monday March 8, 2021, on his 70th Birthday, Glyn Moore finished his last squat. Glyn is survived by Marlene, his loving wife of 25 years, dear father of Nicole (Andy) and Andrea. Beloved “Grandad” to Corey and Ella. Youngest brother to Barry and predeceased by John (Elaine). Brother-in-law of William (Laura) and Catherine. Uncle of Kevin (Angie), Stephen and Dean (Caroline), LeeAnn (Steve) and Calvin. Great Uncle of Brennan, and son-in-law to Jean Manley. Glyn will be profoundly missed by Steve Magistrale who considered Glyn his mentor, best friend and father-figure. Predeceased by parents Percy and Mary. Glyn was proudly born and raised in North Wales and immigrated to Canada in 1977. He settled in St. Catharines, working many years as a welder for General Motors where he made many life-long friends including Wayne, Rob, Hans and Vern. He remained close with his childhood friends Ian and Roy. A true powerlifting competitor and legend, Glyn passed away the way he had always joked about, with a good lift under his belt and still wearing his lifting gear. To those that knew him, the name Glyn Moore is synonymous with powerlifting, his raw passion for the sport obvious in everything he did. He contributed endlessly as a competitor, meet director, volunteer, official, coach, mentor, promotor, and recruiter, not to mention his many formulas, custom equipment, and his famous quick wit. He loved to reminisce about good times with friends and was the first to remind everyone of a friend or fellow lifter’s achievements. He had a memory to be envied, remembering records, dates, people, and could tell you exactly where he was and what he was doing when just about any song came out. With a boyish grin and Welsh music in his blood, he could always be heard humming or singing a tune. Glyn will never know how many lives he touched, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family has asked that if anyone is so moved, they may wish to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Glyn's memory."
In honouring Glyn’s wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
