Obituary for Joan Williams

WILLIAMS, Joan

Joan Williams (née Davies) grew up in Liverpool, England, during WW II, lining up for rations on her school lunch hours and raising chickens with her father. One of her proudest moments was being crowned the Rose Queen in her primary school in Liverpool. She trained as a hairdresser and emigrated to Canada eventually landing in Port Dalhousie, Canada in 1953 with Bill, the love of her life. The young couple loved Southern Ontario and spent their free time frequenting the beaches with Joan’s brother, Fred Davies and his wife Kath. The Liverpool Canadian clan grew as Joan and Bill welcomed two children, Vivian and Brian, and as well their nephews, Steve, Dave and Mike. Joan was actively involved in her community working at Barnesdale Community Living for 25 years and volunteering at St. Columba Church and Niagara Animal Assistance. She was known for her charming garden, her delicious meat pies and skills as a seamstress. Living independently into her late 80’s she became the “Uber” driver for her long-term friends for years. She was ever present and active in her grandchildren’s (Hannah, Emma, Abbey & Hailey) lives and was present for every birthday party, trip to the zoo or Halloween trick-or-treating. Joan passed after a brief illness on February 26th, two months before her 92nd birthday with her family at her side. We will miss our Rose Queen forever.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held in the future.
