Obituary for Johannes VanBreda

VanBREDA, Johannes “Joe”

Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, just two months shy of his 93rd birthday. Loving father of Henry and Joanie (2020). Joe was the 4th of 9 children of Hendrik and Hendrika. Joe will be missed by his nieces, nephews and their families. He spent two years in the Dutch Army in Indonesia. Upon returning home he then immigrated to Canada at the age of 24. He was a very hard worker, along side his brother they sharecropped tomatoes in Blenheim and then worked in the tobacco fields until the mid 1950’s until Joe moved to St. Catharines. He retired from Atlas Steels after 28 years of service. Joe was a long time member of Westminster United Church, having been an usher and serving on various committees. He was also a long time member of Club The Netherlands; however, he was very proud and thankful to be a Canadian.

We give them back to you, dear Lord,
Who gave them to us.
Yet as you did not lose them in giving,
so we have not lost them by their return.
For what is yours is ours always, if we are yours.
And life is eternal and love is immortal
And death is only a horizon.
And a horizon is nothing more than a limit to our sight.

In honouring Johannes’s wishes a Memorial Service will be held in the future. Memorial donations to Alzheimer Society of The Niagara Region would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
