Obituary for John Joseph Chesla

CHESLA, John Joseph

It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of John Chesla on Sunday February 28, 2021 in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Fran for 54 years. Cherished and loving father of James (Melany) and Michelle. Extremely proud grandfather of Natalie (Jake) and Peter. Predeceased by his parents, John and Helen, and son, John Steven. Survived by brothers: Paul (Irene) and Ken (Doreen) (Donna, predeceased), as well as his Aunt Katie and many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and brothers & sisters-in-law.

John was born and raised in Hamilton on July 4th, 1944. He excelled in sports and was even named Hamilton's 'Athlete of the Year'. He had a brief run with the Hamilton Tiger Cats until injuries intervened. John and Fran spent their married life living in both St. Catharines and Fonthill. Together they raised their two children and enjoyed their two grandchildren. Natalie and Peter, he loved you more than you know.

John was often the life of the party. He loved to lead the singing at family gatherings and was often the loudest. He loved his polka music, his Tiger Cats and watering and admiring his freshly cut lawn. His many hours watering down his driveway in the evenings relaxed him and had many saying he should have been a fireman. He was very protective of his family and loved deeply. His smile and spirit could definitely energize a room. His hugs were comforting and John had a huge and loyal heart.

John fought many health challenges over the years and was brave, strong and resilient up until the very end. He fought fiercely to stay on this earth. We will forever miss and love him. But knowing his suffering is over brings us peace. We get great comfort knowing he is now welcomed and surrounded by the love of those who left before him. Dad we know you will always be watching over us. Your strength lives within us forever. Until we meet again, we will always be your loving and devoted family and will think and speak your name often. We will try not to speed and to "Be Careful" and always double check to make sure that the front door is locked. Rest happily and peacefully now. As per your wishes, Mom will be looked after and we, your children will "Be Happy". We hope you are dancing and singing in Heaven and smiling with joy, surrounded by those you have been missing. We love you unconditionally always and forever.

In lieu of flowers, please take time to tell those close to you that you love them often and be kind to one another. Cremation has taken place and interment at Pleasantview in Fonthill. A Celebration of Life to honour John will take place at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
