Obituary for Kenneth Francis Steeve

STEEVE, Kenneth Francis

Sadly, we announce the passing of Ken “Mr. Wonderful” on August 9th, 2022, a day after his 82nd birthday. Born in St. Catharines on August 8th, 1940 to Vera and Frederick Steeve. Ken retired from teaching at St. Mary’s Catholic School to pursue a career in retail management. Ken served many years with Riteway, Towers and eventually retired from Zellers in 1994. He had an undeniable passion for baseball and was an accomplished fastball pitcher for many teams and leagues. He loved coaching the Cleland Jr. A’s , guiding them to many Ontario and Canadian Championships. Ken later became president of the St.Catharines Men’s Minor Softball Association and during his time there was voted “Mr. Softball”. Ken was also involved for many years with the Thorold Minor Hockey League. A true sportsman, but most of all known for his selfless, loving and giving nature, Ken wanted nothing more than to see people smile and having a good time. Ken leaves behind his cherished wife of 60 years, Laura, and will be dearly missed by his children: Kenneth (Liz), Matthew (Brandi) and Michele (Bob). “Pa or Papa” to his grandchildren: Kenny, Brittany (Colton) and Savannah. Also missed by nieces and nephews Jamison (Carolyn), Gillian (Adam), Daniel (Fung Ying), Leslie (Jeff) and younger brother Frank (Brenda) (predeceased by wife Mitzi). Predeceased by his older brother Fred (Cathie) (predeceased by wife Rita). His legacy of sportsmanship and love of the game will always live on in the people that loved and knew him. Take the mound one last time Pa. We love you but you always knew that!
In honouring Ken’s wishes a private family service has taken place. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
