Obituary for Loretta "Laura" May Richardson

RICHARDSON, Loretta May “Laura” (nee Baker)

Laura was born in Galt, Ontario on November 13, 1921 and died in St. Catharines on February 25, 2022 at the age of 100. She was the only daughter of George and Etta Baker and sister of Howard and Lloyd. She and her husband, Don, had two sons, Wayne (Sandra) and Allan (Debbie); five grandchildren, Lisa Richardson-Campbell (Bruce), Joel (Sue), Josh (Ansley), Paul (Ellen) and Sean (Alex); and seven great-grand children, Javan (Alex), Shepherd, Lief and Briar Richardson, Noah and Grace Campbell and Arielle Keen.

The Bakers lived in Galt and Niagara Falls before moving to New Liskeard in 1939 where she met and married Donald (Don) Richardson. The newlyweds promptly moved to Hamilton where they raised their two sons.

Don died in 2006 after a lengthy illness. Laura cared for him selflessly during his long decline. After his death, she continued to live in their tiny house in Hamilton’s east end until she moved to St. Catharines 3 years ago.

Laura was a smart and strong woman who could stretch a dollar a long way. She was tough, too, and could be blunt when letting you know how she felt. Laura was adventurous and loved the outdoors, gardening, travel, camping, skating, swimming, trying to water ski and that little Trillium trailer! She and Don toured the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Australia and England.

For her, “Family times were the best times!”

Thank you to the staff of Martindale Place, who was always so loving and kind to Laura in her final years. She was very happy living at Martindale Place. And a world of thanks to the many PSW’s that cared for Laura, specifically Aasia, Gada and Gina. Your care was a key part to her long life and we will be forever grateful.

In honouring Laura’s wishes a private family service has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca
