BROERSE, Peter
With heavy hearts, the family of Peter Broerse announce his passing at the age of 71.
Peter was born October 2, 1950 in North Amsterdam, Holland. He emigrated with his family at the age of six. As a small child in a new country who only spoke Dutch, he made the understanding of the English language his personal challenge. Over the years his knowledge of English grammar, spelling and his ability to solve the most difficult crossword puzzles were unequalled.
For more than 30 years Peter was a construction millwright at General Motors in St. Catharines. He was known for his ready smile and meticulous planning skills.
Peter loved books, animals and music. He had a wide circle of friends, many from his GM days.
Peter leaves behind his wife, Gay Douglas, and his two sons, Rob of Leipzig Germany and Mark of Dartmouth Nova Scotia. He was proud of his daughter-in-law, Moa, and adored his little granddaughter, Yuna.
Peter was the much-loved youngest brother of his five siblings: Nel (Hank) Dekker, John (Nancy) Broerse, Dick (Helen) Broerse, Connie (Jerry) Van Edmond and Marlene (Paul) Van Wingerden.
Peter was a good friend to Gay’s children: Aaron Douglas and Shannon Douglas. His longest and best friend was Paul Dortono.
He’ll be greatly missed by his canine buddy, Bear.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at the Regency Athletic Resort at 8068 Mountain Road in Niagara Falls, on Friday, July 29, 2022. Please join us anytime between 3-7 PM to raise a glass and share your memories of Pete.
Many thanks to the staff on the 3B Oncology Ward at the St. Catharines General Hospital for their outstanding compassion, care and flexibility during a very difficult time.
To remember Peter, hug a family member today or make a donation to the Niagara Falls Humane Society.
