O’DONNELL, Beverley Jean (nee McWaters)
May 7, 1928-April 4, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Bev. Mom passed peacefully on Sunday, April 4th at Linhaven in St Catharines. Bev was born in New Westminster, B.C. and was the youngest daughter of Pete and Nellie McWaters and younger sister to Patsy. Growing up in New Westminster, Bev always looked forward to and participated in the annual May Day Celebrations and she was an exceptional roller skater.

In 1955 Bev met the love of her life, when she went on a blind date with a handsome young man, named Phil, from Toronto and the rest was history. They were married in New Westminster in 1956 and then made their way to Winnipeg to settle down and raise their family. They had three daughters, Nancy, Heather and Joanne. In the mid 70’s Phil was transferred to a new job in Toronto, and the family settled in Brampton.

In 1979 Phil lost his battle to cancer. Bev continued to work at the Bramalea City Centre in customer service and loved her job there. She was loved and known for her generosity of spirit, kindness and a true genuine nature. Bev also continued to roller skate well into her late 70’s and could maneuver around the rink with grace and style. She had a zest for life that was contagious to everyone around her. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Alex, Andrew, Jeff and Emily and they were truly the joys of her life. Her son-in-laws, Fred and John always made her laugh, and she loved them like her own sons. Bev loved her home, in Brampton, at The Oakland, and was an active participant on weekly Bingo nights, where she made so many cherished friendships.

We would like to extend our most grateful thanks to the staff at Linhaven, especially to those on Merritt West. Though Mom’s time there was brief, the care she received from their staff was extraordinary.

Our Mom has left us with many life lessons and one in particular that she always thought was important was … ”It doesn’t cost you a thing, to smile.” … We know our Mom and Dad have been reunited, and are dancing to their favourite song, Summer Wind, by Frank Sinatra. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in memory of Bev to Friends of Linhaven (403 Ontario St, St. Catharines, L2N 4M8) would be greatly appreciated by her family.

Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at

When you have the choice to sit or to what my Mom did - get up and dance!

My Grandma was my biggest cheerleader, never letting me forget how much she loved me. I have so many wonderful memories with my Grandma that I will cherish. One of my favourites, being her 90th birthday, when we went to the casino and it didn't take long for her to ditch the walker and head straight to the dance floor.
